50th Anniversary
Albia Road Baptist Church in Ottumwa celebrated fifty years of service with a two-day celebration including: a block party, bouncy house, family activities, a Sunday celebration service and a backyard BBQ. Guest speaker, Bubba Dowling from Team X-treme performed extreme acts of strength while sharing the gospel and his own personal testimony. The event was planned to coincide with the national initiative, “Back To Church Sunday,” which was held on September 18th this year. The event drew a good size crowd, in fact Pastor Jeremy Skinner said Saturday’s event surpassed the church goal, bringing in over 200 attendees. Construction of the chapel on Albia Road was completed in 1961. The first services and business meeting were held that year. The original chapel building was an 81’by 37’ structure finished in brick veneer. The auditorium was designed to seat 240 with room to expand to 300 with space in two connected classrooms. Over the years two nice additions and a parsonage have been added. In recent months members have given the sanctuary a spectacular facelift leading up to the big celebration.
